Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT — A man from out of town died after getting struck by a vehicle on the River Road Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Deputy Police Chief David Winchester said the identity of the deceased is not being released until all family members have been notified. However, the pedestrian was in his late 40’s.

The accident occurred at 2:13 p.m.

“A vehicle traveling south on the River Road crossed into the northbound lane and then into the breakdown lane where a pedestrian was struck,” Winchester said. “The pedestrian was killed at the scene.”

The motorist, who is from Bucksport, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Winchester said.

Bucksport Fire, Orrington Ambulance service and the Maine State Police assisted at the scene.

Officer Gerald Lowe is the lead investigator, Winchester said.
