Nibbles: Four upcoming events for foodies

Island chefs’ dinner

Edible Island Culinary and Ecological Center, which spearheaded the culinary arts program at Deer Isle-Stonington High School and hosted numerous cooking workshops on topics ranging from cocktails to Persian cuisine, is merging with the Healthy Island Project on Deer Isle.

To support the merger, a benefit dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the restaurant Aragosta at Goose Cove. The meal will feature a multi-course tasting menu, hors d’oeuvres and wine. An auction also will be held to fund Edible Island’s continued in-school education, the Magic Food Bus and other programs. Pretty swell meatloaf

With the air temperature cooling, Teddy Giles’ meatloaf dinner sounds like an appetizing choice at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Franklin Veterans Club. With all the fixings, the dinner costs $10 per person. For more info, call 565-2977.


Now you’re cooking

A garlic-planting demo, canning basics, making applesauce, cheese-making, Baking doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and date squares over a campfire and wine-making with fruit berries and flowers are some of the workshops offered during the 2019 Common Ground Country Fair running Friday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22, held at 294 Crosby Brook Road in Unity.



Full of good things

Joan Height will teach a free workshop on scooping and stuffing eggplant, zucchini and various squash from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the at the Weald Bethel Community Center on the Maine Seacoast Mission campus in Cherryfield.
