Local wrestling teams post strong holiday tournaments



ELLSWORTH — Local high school wrestlers enjoyed strong dual meets and tournaments throughout the state as the 2018 portion of the season concluded over the weekend.

Competing in the Maine Central Institute Winter Classic in Pittsfield, Bucksport’s Travis Hutchinson earned a win the 120-pound class. The Golden Bucks got second-place finishes from Kaleb Nightingale (126 pounds) and Hunter Robichaud (170 pounds) as well as a fourth-place finish from Alex Burbank at 113.

In Howland, Mount Desert Island’s Baylor Landsman took first place last Thursday in the 170-pound weight class. Teammates Ethan Harkins and Sam Hoff also medaled with second- and third-place finishes at 182 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively.

Bucksport, MDI and Ellsworth, the latter of which competed in Caribou on Dec. 22 and at Noble High School in North Berwick last Friday and Saturday, were scheduled to travel to Dexter at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2. The three will also compete at Calais High School at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5.

The Eagles will be in action at 6 p.m. Jan. 9, for a home meet, which MDI will attend. The Golden Bucks are scheduled to compete at Foxcroft Academy at that same time and date.
