High school wrestling teams wrap up regular season campaigns



BUCKSPORT — Local wrestling teams wrapped up the 2018-19 regular season Saturday with Bucksport hosting Mount Desert Island as part of a dual meet and Ellsworth traveling to Belfast.

Bucksport had a spectacular team performance on Senior Day with Kaleb Nightingale (113 pounds), Hunter Robichaud (170 pounds) Gavin Billings (220) and David Gross (285) placing first in their respective weight classes. Ricky Perkins (160) added a second-place finish for the Golden Bucks, and Alex Burbank (106), Travis Hutchinson (120), Jacob Ames (195) and Jacob Coghill (220) took third.

In Belfast, Ellsworth competed against Lincoln Academy, Morse and Penobscot Valley in addition to the host team. The Eagles beat Lincoln Academy and Penobscot Valley in the head-to-head contests, earned a tie against Belfast and lost to Morse.

The three Hancock County teams will head to Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford for the Penobscot Valley Conference championships Saturday, Feb. 2. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m.
