Four Hancock County Wrestlers Win at Ryan Detour Memorial Tournament



BUCKSPORT — Ellsworth’s Mike Phillippon and Jordan Fogg, Nicolas Bishop and Chris Powell all won their weight classes in the annual Ryan Detour Memorial wrestling tournament hosted by the Bucksport Golden Bucks on Saturday.

Wrestlers from nearly a dozen teams competed in the daylong preseason meet.

Phillippon of the Ellsworth Eagles scored a 13-6 decision over Kyle Foley of Madison and pinned Jake Blanchette of Mount View in 1:44 en route to his win in the 170-pound weight class.

For the Golden Bucks, Fogg had a great day at 160 pounds in what proved to be the largest of all weight classes in terms of number.

Fogg won a technical fall over Dylan Bruce of Foxcroft Academy in his opening bout, then pinned Derrin Moreshead of Madison in 59 seconds and Cody Soucier of Madison in 3:19 to set the stage for his final against teammate Jacob Stewart.

Stewart advanced by pinning Zack Evans of Foxcroft in 1:37, Andrew Rediker of Hermon in 2:19 and Jon Gudroe of Dexter in 2:19.

Fogg eked out a 1-0 decision over Stewart in the championship final.

At 182 pounds, Bucksport’s Bishop pinned Ellsworth’s Josh Fowler in 1 minute to win the championship final.

Bishop advanced with a 13-4 decision over Lucas Murphy of the Mount Desert Island Trojans, a 13-second pin of Vincent Banks of Brewer and a pin in 1:56 over Corey Blomston of Foxcroft.

Fowler pinned Gavin Caler of Mount View in 43 seconds, won a 3-2 decision over Corbyn Bruce of Foxcroft and pinned Bruce Goodrich of Nobel in 1:30 en route to the final.

The 220-pound championship matched Bucksport’s Powell against Mike Garland of Ellsworth and Powell prevailed with a 2-0 decision.

In earlier bouts, Powell pinned Jake Poors of Ellsworth in 1:07 and Tyler Stevenson of Mount View in 2:22, and scored a 13-4 decision over Alex Urquhart of Hermon.

Garland pinned Joshua Haskell of Dexter in 19 seconds, Job Mesaric of Mount View in 42 seconds and Ryan Malcolm of Madison in 2:48 to advance.

106 pounds: Josh Sargent of Ellsworth, third.

113 pounds: Matthew Stewart of Bucksport, third.

126 pounds: Alex Turanski of the George Stevens Academy Eagles, third.

132 pounds: Jordan Lord of GSA, third.

138 pounds: Robert Banner of Ellsworth, fourth.

195 pounds: Michael York of Bucksport, third.

285 pounds: Damon Klinedinst of Bucksport, third.
