BUCKSPORT — Four Ellsworth Eagle wrestlers — James Goncalves, Ryan Grover, Dakota Hellum and Jared Sargent — left the mat as champions in Saturday’s annual Ryan Detour Preseason Tournament.

BUCKSPORT — Four Ellsworth Eagle wrestlers — James Goncalves, Ryan Grover, Dakota Hellum and Jared Sargent — left the mat as champions in Saturday’s annual Ryan Detour Preseason Tournament.
Goncalves got things started for the Eagles in the 112-pound weight class, pinning Jordan Lord of the George Stevens Academy Eagles in 1:11 and Russell Coatain of the John Bapst Crusaders in 3:43 en route to the final.
Goncalves then pinned Anthony Sprigg of Brewer in 1:00 to win the title.
At 152 pounds, Grover pinned Jordan Fogg of Bucksport’s Golden Bucks in a tough 5:16 battle, then pinned Dillan Jordan of John Bapst in 1:52.
Grover pinned Bryan Johnson of Brewer in just 59 seconds to claim the championship.

At 160 pounds, Hellum opened his competition by pinning Ethan Spelios of Foxcroft Academy n 3:08, then scored a 10-4 decision over Tyler Albee of Bucksport to advance to the finals, where he bested Albert Lear of John Bapst by an 11-6 decision.
Wrestling in the 215-pound class, Sargent pinned Justin Bulley of the Mount Desert Island Trojans in 51 seconds and Marcus Eaton of Brewer in 5:24 before pinning Damon Klinedinst of Bucksport in 4:54 for the title.
Two Bucksport wrestlers also emerged as tournament champions.
After a first round bye at 171 pounds, River Robertson pinned Ellsworth’s Michael Phillippon in 2:46, then pinned teammate Troy Vincent in 3:17 for the title.
In the heavyweight 285-pound class, Tyler Hawksley pinned Marcus Berry of Madawaska in 1:17, Thomas Connary of MDI in 4:27 and Troy Bennett of Hermon in 1:12 in the final.
For Ellsworth, Phillippon placed third at 171 pounds and Robert Hall was fourth at 189 pounds.

In addition to Klinedinst and Vincent, Dale Sweet was a runner-up for Bucksport at 135 pounds.
Also for the Golden Bucks, Chris Powell was third at 189 pounds, Tarik Bernaiche was fourth at 140 pounds, Jacob Stewart was fourth at 145 pounds, Jordan Fogg was fourth at 152 pounds and Tyler Albee was fourth at 160 pounds.
Two George Stevens Academy Eagle wrestlers — Dustin Piskura at 119 pounds and Storme Macomber at 130 pounds — finished as runner-ups.
Also for GSA, James Moore was third at 140 pounds, Alex Turanski was fourth at 103 pounds, Jordan Lord was fourth at 110 pounds and Jeff Durand was fourth at 171 pounds.
For MDI’s Trojans, Justin Lipkavich was runner-up in the 140-pound class, Josh Silva was fourth at 119 pounds and Thomas Connary was fourth at 285 pounds.
