Ellsworth Eagle Wrestlers Edge Golden Bucks



BUCKSPORT — Saturday was a good day for Ellsworth Eagle wrestlers.

BUCKSPORT — Saturday was a good day for Ellsworth Eagle wrestlers.

In a five-team meet at Bucksport High School, the Eagles came away with four wins including a 40-35 squeaker over the host Golden Bucks.

In head-to-head matchups, each team had four wins but three of Ellsworth’s came from pins worth 6 points each, while three of Bucksport’s victories were by decisions, for which fewer points are awarded.

Each team also won three bouts by forfeit.

Gina Soutthivong got things started for the Eagles with a pin of Bucksport’s Kevin Greene in the 112-pound weight class.

Also winning by pins for Ellsworth were Michael Philippon over Troy Vincent at 171 pounds and Patrick Kidder over Tyler Hawksley at 285 pounds.

Jared Sargent won a major decision for the Eagles over Damon Klinedinst at 215 pounds.

For the Golden Bucks, Jacob Stewart had the only pin — over Harry Whitmore — at 145 pounds.

Also for Bucksport, Jordan Fogg scored a major decision over Dakota Jewett at 152 pounds, River Robertson won by decision over Dakota Hellum at 160 pounds and Chris Powell scored a major decision over Josh Fowler at 189 pounds.

In Ellsworth’s 48-28 win over Piscataquis, Ben Wildes at 140 pounds and Philippon and Fowler won by pins, with the other victories coming by forfeit.

In the 60-12 win over Woodland, Philippon and Fowler also won by pins with forfeits accounting for the other wins.

Wildes won by decision and Philippon, Sargent and Kidder all pinned their opponents in Ellsworth’s 54-21 win over Mattanawcook Academy.

Ryan Grover of the Sumner Tigers remained undefeated for the season so far, coming away with a win by decision over Bucksport’s Jordan Fogg and a pin of Skylar Bailey of Piscataquis.

In Bucksport’s 63-12 win over Piscataquis, Alex Brown (103), Taylor Miller (130), Jacob Stewart (145), Troy Vincent (171) and Chris Powell (189) pinned their opponents and Fogg won by decision.
