Ellsworth 6th, Bucksport 10th at regional wrestling championships



ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth and Bucksport wrestling teams finished sixth and 10th, respectively, at Saturday’s Class B North wrestling championships at Mount View High School in Thorndike.

Senior Chris Barnes was the star of the day for Ellsworth with a victory in the 195-pound division. Barnes defeated Medomak Valley’s Amos Hinckley to win the bracket.

In the 106-pound weight class, Ellsworth’s Landon St. Peter lost to Bucksport’s Travis Hutchinson in the title bout. Charlie Hughes finished third in the 182-pound division, and Andrew Brown finished fourth at 160.

Bucksport’s Foster Ashmore finished second in the 120-pound weight class. The senior standout lost to Dexter’s Caleb Weeks in the championship bout.

Next up for both teams is the Class B state championships in Wells. That event will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.
