Bucksport Middle School places 2nd at state wrestling championships March 31, 2018 on Sports, Wrestling BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport Middle School wrestling team claimed second place at Saturday’s Pine Tree Wrestling League championships in Skowhegan. Bucksport finished the event with 119 points, just shy of Mattanawcook Junior High School’s 120.5. The team sent five wrestlers to championship bouts and crowned two state champions. Kaleb Nightingale (117 pounds) and Jaxon Gross (195 pounds) won their respective weight classes for Bucksport. Nightingale emerged as the winner in a 9-4 decision against Winslow’s Damien Gilley, and Gross won in a 9-1 decision against Isaiah Oufiero of Oxford Hills. Other title bout participants for Bucksport were Tyler Hallett (130 pounds), Cameron Rich (145 pounds) and Jacob Coghill (240 pounds). Hallett and Coghill lost in the finals via fall, and Rich fell via decision. Connor Fitch (93 pounds) and Grayson Fernald (170 pounds) made it to the consolation finals for the Golden Bucks. Fitch fell to Dirigo’s Lucas Libby in the second period, and Fernald lost via decision against Casey Mills of Cony. Oxford Hills, Mount Ararat and Skowhegan rounded out the rest of the top-five finishers. Locally, Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School and Dedham School also earned points.
