Trojans sweep Thornton

BAR HARBOR — Every member of the Mount Desert Island High School varsity volleyball team contributed to the Trojans’ 3-0 win against Thornton Academy on Oct. 12. Game scores were 25-6, 25-12, and 25-8.

The Trojans improve to sixth in Class A, with an 8-3 record.

MDI leaped to an early lead in Game 1 with aces by Sarah Phelps and Deandra Kanu.

The last part of Game 2 saw some long rallies, with kills by Cassidy Parady. Cook sent a gentle bump just over the net to end the game at 25-12.

Game 3 got going with a kill by Ray for a 2-1 lead, and several aces in a row by Brigette Parady. Kills by Cook were perfectly set up by the team machine, and MDI shot ahead to 11-3.

Next up is a rematch with Calais at home on Friday, Oct. 18. The senior night ceremony will take place immediately following the JV game. The last two matches of the regular season will both be at Cony on Saturday – Cony at 11 a.m. and Chevrus at 12:30 p.m.
