MDI Volleyball Players are Picked for Top Team

BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island High School senior Megan Phelps was named to the Maine Class A All State First Team. This year she racked up 174 kills, 63 digs, 39 aces and three dozen blocks along with more than 100 assists.

MDI, which lost in the playoff semi-finals, went into the playoffs seeded number two and was ranked number one or two through much of the season.

One MDI volleyball player, India Ross, was named to the All-State Second Team.

Teammate Destiny Kanu was named as an honorable mention All State player.

The All-State teams are chosen by the Maine Volleyball Coaches Association. Coaches nominate players, whose names are put on a ballot, then all coaches vote, giving three points for a first-team nod, one point for a second. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.
