ELLSWORTH — The Mount Desert Island Trojans upped their record to 4-0 this week with wins over Ellsworth and southern Maine opponents Cheverus and Scarborough.

Those wins boosted the Trojans to the top of the Maine Principals’ Association state Class A volleyball standings.

The 3-2 Ellsworth Eagles are ranked sixth in Class A after losses this week to MDI and Scarborough and a win over Sumner.

In Class B, the 1-1 Bucksport Golden Bucks are ranked fourth and the 1-2 Sumner Tigers are sixth.

In action this week:

MDI 3, Ellsworth 0

With two of three games decided by the slimmest of margins, the Trojans claimed a 3-0 win over the Ellsworth Eagles on Thursday.

The Trojans nipped the Eagles 26-24 in the first game, 25-23 in the second and 25-18 in the third.

For MDI, Sarah Phelps had an ace, eight kills, a block and an assist; Aubrie Boyce had four aces, six kills and two digs; and Brittany Corson had three aces.

Sarah Shelton led the way for Ellsworth with five kills, seven assists and five digs; Sammy Mason had 10 kills; and Delaney Sargent had five aces.

Bucksport 3, Sumner 0

The Bucksport Golden Bucks downed the Sumner Tigers 3-0 on Thursday in Bucksport, winning by game scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-18.

For the Golden Bucks, Holly Judkins had nine aces and two digs, Joy Fitzgerald had four aces and Chloe Stubbs had two aces and one dig.

For the Tigers, Julia Tardy had four digs, two kills and an ace; Amie O’Hara had one dig and four kills and Kiandra Barnes had two digs, three kills and two aces.

MDI 3, Cheverus 0

With game scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-12, the Trojans downed Cheverus 3-0 on Saturday in Bar Harbor.

For MDI, Camilla Thomassen-Tai had six aces, six digs and an assist; Sarah Phelps had three aces, nine kills, a block and two digs; Elise Robertson had five aces, six kills and a block; and Rileyi Mooers had four aces, 22 assists and two digs.

Scarborough 3, Ellsworth 1

The Eagles dropped to 2-2 on Saturday at Ellsworth, losing the first set to Scarborough 25-8, winning the second 25-22, and losing the last two 25-13 and 25-22.

“We had a chance to win the fourth,” Ellsworth Coach Mike Kelley said. “We definitely saw that we can play with one of the better teams around.”

Ellsworth 3, Sumner 0

The Eagles claimed their third win of the season on Monday at Ellsworth, downing the Sumner Tigers by game scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-23.

For Ellsworth, Sarah Shelton led the way with eight aces, 11 kills, seven assists and five digs.

Sammy Mason had six aces, seven kills and two digs; Delaney Sargent had eight aces and three digs; and Jenna Haslam had two kills and six assists.

For the Tigers, Kiandra Barnes had three digs; Emily Martin had six digs and two tips; Julie Tardy had three digs; and Tiana Johnson had a dig, an ace and four tips.
