GSA volleyball team beats Ellsworth, Sumner to reach 6-1

BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy volleyball team has extended its strong start to the season to 6-1 with wins over Ellsworth and Sumner.

After winning its first four matches, GSA fell to its first loss of the year Saturday with a 3-1 loss at Calais. Yet the team bounced back Monday with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-23) home win over Ellsworth (1-3) with senior Mara Pickering serving 31 of 31 and sophomore Evelyn Dagan providing nine kills and 19 assists.

GSA was at home again Tuesday night and earned a 3- win over Sumner (1-4). Pickering served 18 of 19 with six assists in the win, and Dagan served 15 of 16 and added seven assists as the Eagles took over second place in Class C North.

GSA will be on the road against Narraguagus (3-3) at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 26. The Eagles will then host Bucksport (5-1) in a Hancock County clash at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.
