ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth volleyball team is now 2-2 on the season after two wins and a loss against one of the state’s top teams.
Ellsworth claimed its first win of the season with a weekend victory against Nokomis and followed it up Monday with a win over Narraguagus. The Eagles then fell to defeat against reigning Penobscot Valley Conference Large-School champ Washington Academy.
On Saturday, Ellsworth prevailed 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 26-24) over Nokomis in Newport. The Eagles got eight kills, seven assists, five digs and two assists from Rachel Endre, four kills and 22 digs from Skyler Clayton, four access and 12 assists from Bailey Clarke and five aces, 13 kills and four blocks from Jocelyn Jordan in the win.
Back on the road Monday, Ellsworth defeated Narraguagus (0-3) 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 15-13) in Harrington. Endre provided 13 aces, 11 kills and nine digs for the Eagles, who also got three aces and 10 assists from Clarke, 25 digs from Clayton, nine kills and five solo blocks from Jordan, four aces and 10 kills from Tess Lamoine and three aces and 13 assists from Olivia Harmon.
On Monday, Ellsworth fell to a four-set defeat against Washington Academy (5-0) at Ellsworth High School. The Eagles were the first team this season to win a game against the Raiders, who had previously won in straight sets against Brewer, Mount Desert Island, Jonesport-Beals and Calais.
Ellsworth is set to host Hampden Academy (1-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16. The Eagles will then play road matches at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, against Brewer and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, against George Stevens Academy.
