AUGUSTA — The Ellsworth volleyball team won its opening match of the season Monday evening with a four-set victory over Cony in Augusta.
The Eagles won the first set 25-21 and the second 25-18 before Cony (0-2) won the third 25-23 to stay alive. Yet Ellsworth (1-0) took the fourth set 25-20 to earn a road victory and give itself an early boost in the Class B standings.
Alli Dorr led Ellsworth in kills with 10 and also provided 23 service points and six aces. Fellow junior Ella Hubbard had 32 assists and five aces, and Jocelyn Boudreau (11 digs), Taylor Clark (six kills, six digs and five aces), Sydney Garrity (eight digs), Jocelyn Jordan (nine kills) and Samantha Simmons (four kills and four digs) also contributed in the victory.
Ellsworth will now get eight days of rest before it plays its next match. That contest will come on the road against Gardiner (2-0) at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 18.
