Eagles Win, Bucksport 2-0 in Volleyball



ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Eagles downed Calais 3-0 and the Bucksport Golden Bucks notched their second win in volleyball action on Tuesday.

At Calais, Ellsworth bested the host Blue Devils in consecutive games, winning 25-22, 25-15 and 25-15.

Tori Huntley led the way for the Eagles with 13 kills, 7 aces and 5 assists. Sarah Shelton had 5 kills and 3 aces, Audra Colley had 13 assists and 3 digs and Nicole Austin was 13-for-13 serving with 5 aces and 4 digs.

Bucksport improved to 2-0 at Machias on Tuesday, downing the Bulldogs 3-0.

For the Golden Bucks, Victoria Grindle had 18 digs, 4 aces and 2 assists; Shelby Emery had 3 aces and 4 kills; Lisa Tapley had 4 kills and 2 digs; and Madison Porter had 6 assists.

In earlier action, Bucksport rolled over the Woodland Dragons 3-0 in a Class B match-up at home on Friday.

The Mount Desert Island Trojans hosted the Calais Blue Devils on Saturday in Bar Harbor and took away a 3-1 win.

MDI took the first two games 25-11 and 25-16 but dropped the third before rally for the final 25-22 win to clinch the match.

Madeline Cook had 15 aces for the Trojans.

MDI will be at Ellsworth tonight to face the host Eagles with the junior varsity game beginning at 4 p.m. and the varsity contest set for 5:15.
