BREWER — The outdoor track season came to an end Saturday afternoon as Hancock County athletes competed at state championships in Brewer and Farmington.
At the Class B championship meet in Brewer, the Mount Desert Island boys placed third of 30 teams with 40 points. Gilbert Isaacs claimed an individual state championship for the Trojans with a distance of 55 feet, 9 1/2 inches in the shot put. Junior Zoe Olson placed second in the 800-meter run for the MDI girls, who took 13th overall.
For Ellsworth, Javon Williams took seventh in the 300-meter, ninth in the long jump and 10th in the 100-meter dash. The girls’ 4-by-100 relay team of Anna Brown, Maddie Nida, Paige Sawyer and Addi Laslie took seventh in the 24-team field with a time of 54.56 seconds.
Bucksport had a strong day at the Class C championships at Mount Blue High School in Farmington with multiple state champs crowned. Senior Carter Tolmasoff won the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dashes with respective times of 11.12 and 22.94 seconds, and Addie Morrison, Angelina Cotoni, Britney Bussey and Johanna Stiles combined to take first in the girls’ 4-by-100 relay with a time of 53.60 seconds.
George Stevens Academy’s LeeAnn Varnum won the girls’ shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 8 inches. Ian Renwick placed fifth in the long jump and eighth in the 200-meter dash for the GSA boys.
For the Sumner boys, Logan Carter placed 11th in the 1,600-meter run. Blue Howard placed 11th in the javelin throw for the girls.
