Local athletes win individual titles at state indoor track championships



ELLSWORTH — Several local athletes brought home individual and relay state titles at Saturday’s Class B championship meet at Bates College in Lewiston.

Competing in the boys’ 55-meter dash, Carter Tolmasoff of Bucksport posted a time of 6.71 seconds to win the event. He took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.68 seconds.

For Mount Desert Island, Gilbert Isaacs won the boys’ shot put with a distance of 47 feet, 7 3/4 inches. The Trojans won the state relay title in the girls’ 4-by-800 with a time of 10:26.27 with Zoe Olson, who ran the final leg of the MDI’s relay title, also claiming an individual title in the 800-meter run.

Ellsworth senior Emma McKechnie took third place in the girls’ pole vault with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches, and Nate Mason took fourth in the boys’ long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Mason, Colby Hamilton, Atticus Deeny and Javon Williams teamed up to give Ellsworth fourth place out of 25 teams in the 4-by-200 relay with a time of 1:36.77.

York was the overall winner in the boys’ meet, in which Bucksport (seventh place) finished as the top local team with Ellsworth (ninth place) close behind. On the girls’ side, MDI placed sixth as Brewer edged York for first place.
