Hinckley 2nd in Decathlon

SCARBOROUGH — Recent Mount Desert Island High School graduate Nat Hinckley competed in the Maine USA Track and Field Junior Olympic Association State Meet on Saturday.

Hinckley, who was named to several spots on the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) all-star outdoor track team, competed in the decathlon and placed second overall with a total score of 5,037.

On day two of the competition, Hinckley placed second in the discus, throwing 105 feet, 10 inches. Then, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault earned Hinckley a third-place finish in that event. Hinckley outthrew his nearest competition by nearly 20 feet in the javelin to take first place in that event. In the final event of the decathlon, the 1,500-meter run, Hinckley placed fourth with a time of 5:48.52

On June 19, at the New Balance Outdoor Track Nationals in Greensboro, N.C., Hinckley placed third in the emerging elite class in the javelin with a throw of 168 feet.
