ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth’s Emma McKechnie highlighted Saturday’s indoor track meet at the University of Maine with wins in three different events.
McKechnie’s event wins came in the long jump, high jump and triple jump at Ellsworth’s most recent meet, which pitted the Eagles against Bucksport, George Stevens Academy and Sumner. The teams were competing in the fourth meet of the season.
In the long jump, McKechnie recorded a distance of 14 feet, 1 inch to place first of seven competitors. She then edged out GSA’s Tess Williamson by 1 foot, 7 3/4 inches to win the triple jump before clearing 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump.
For the Ellsworth boys, Matt Shea won the 2-mile run with a time of 10 minutes, 52.78 seconds, and Beck Deeny, Colby Hamilton, Atticus Deeny and Javon Williams combined to win the 4-by-200 relay with a time of 1:42.11. Atticus Deeny (triple jump) and Logan Grass (shot put) won individual field events for the Eagles, who claimed second place behind Hermon.
GSA nearly pulled out the overall team win on the girls’ side but fell one point short of first-place John Bapst’s 93. The Eagles won the 4-by-200 and 4-by-800 relays and finished second in five different events. Meredith Bradshaw Thomas won the 800-meter run for the GSA boys, who placed fourth.
Bucksport enjoyed a strong day on the track with three runners posting individual wins. Carter Tolmasoff and Johanna Stiles won the boys’ and girls’ 55-meter dashes, respectively, and Addie Morrison won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04:39.
For Sumner, Logan Carter finished third of eight runners in the boys’ 800-meter run. In the 200-meter dash, Shaun Gigante placed 10th of 36 finishers.
The teams will return to UMaine next Saturday, Jan. 12. Ellsworth and Sumner will be competing at 9 a.m., and GSA and Bucksport are set to compete at 1:30 p.m.
