ELLSWORTH — Athletes from Ellsworth, Bucksport and George Stevens Academy competed in the first meet of the outdoor track season Wednesday at Husson University’s Cameron Stadium.
On the boys’ side, Ellsworth enjoyed a successful day with Mark Berry and Mike Kazmierczak finishing a respective first and second in the 400-meter dash and Nick Cormier winning the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 54.20 seconds. The quartet of Jack Sandone, Bailey Bishoff, Henry Scheff and Javon Williams took second in the 4-by-100 relay.
For Bucksport, Carter Tolmasoff ran the 100-meter dash in 11.29 seconds to beat out Bangor’s Landyn Francis by one-hundredth of a second. Tolmasoff joined Nate Sawyer, Jade Smith and Logan Stanley to give the Golden Bucks a relay win in the 4-by-100.
GSA’s Meredith Bradshaw Thomas, Jeremiah Scheff, Eric Mote and Clark Morrison took second in the 4-by-800 relay with a time of 9:27.52.
Hancock County competitors had big days on the girls’ side as well with four local athletes claiming event wins. Oshi Ragot (800-meter run) and LeeAnn Varnum (shot put) won events for GSA, and Autumn Paul of Ellsworth (discus throw) and Addie Morrison of Bucksport (200-meter dash) added first-place finishes. GSA also won the 4-by-100 relay.
Ellsworth brought home fourth place on the boys’ side with 68 points, and GSA (40 points) and Bucksport (33 points) followed in fifth and sixth, respectively). The Ellsworth girls earned 79 points to place third with GSA (69) claiming fourth and Bucksport (61) coming in fifth. Bangor won both team events.
