MTA to sponsor free tennis night

ELLSWORTH — Free tennis for adult players at all levels will be offered on Friday, Sept. 6, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ellsworth Tennis Center.

The “Free Tennis Night in Maine” is being offered at nine indoor tennis clubs through a partnership between the Maine Tennis Association and the U.S. Tennis Association of New England.

The event is planned as a way to get people back into the sport, celebrate the sport for those who currently play and reach out to new players in Maine.

Each event will have a tennis professional on site to assist in a “no-pressure” night of friendly competition, education and socialization. All adults 18 and over are invited to attend at no charge.

“Tennis is a lifetime sport. If you played earlier in your life and stopped, this is an opportunity to get back in the game,” said Ron Friedman, former president of the MTA.

“If you’ve always wanted to try it out while under professional supervision, this gives you an opportunity without risk. Tennis is a fun, relaxing, cardio-healthy activity that we want to share with everyone in Maine.”

There will be tennis programs at the event for players at every level, from those new to the sport, to more seasoned players looking to get back into the game. People are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.

“We want everybody and anybody who has ever played, or who thought about playing,” Friedman said. “All you need to bring are your sneakers and a positive attitude. This is going to be fun!”

Pre-registration is encouraged. Call the Ellsworth Tennis Center at 664-0400 to register or for more information.
