DEER ISLE — The Deer Isle-Stonington Mariner girls saw their superb season come to an end on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Dexter.

The lone win for the Mariners, who entered the Class C tournament ranked number two, was by Chelsea Ciomei, who downed Crissy Mountain 6-2, 6-1 at first singles.

In remaining matches, it was Sarah Murray over Esther Adams 6-4, 6-3 at second singles, Cally Mountain over Heidi Grego 6-1, 6-2 at third singles, Danielle Burton and Katie Eastman over Kimberly Kral and Layla Eaton 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at first doubles, and Alexis Mitchell and Jessica Mason over Julie Stone and Cortney Trundy 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles.

The Mariners got their first-ever home playoff win on Thursday as they nipped the seventh-ranked Washington Academy Raiders 3-2 in a tough battle.

The Mariners took both doubles with Kral and Eaton downing Kerri Mahoney and Molly Pierce in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-0, and Stone and Trundy beating Felicia Pepin and Liz Stanley 6-1, 6-2.

But the Raiders got wins by Ina Tessnow-von Wysocki over Ciomei 6-3, 6-0 at first singles and Zambi Godin over Heidi Grego in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 at third singles.

That set the stage for the completion of the second singles match between Mariner freshman Adams and WA’s Lara Balmert.

Adams took the first set 7-6, winning a tiebreaker 7-2. She dropped the second set 4-6 but came back to win the decisive third set 6-4, advancing the Mariners to the semifinals.
