GSA girls make Class C North tennis final for 3rd straight year June 3, 2018 on Sports, Tennis BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy girls’ tennis team advanced to the Class C North final for the third year in a row Saturday when it defeated third-ranked Fort Kent 4-1 at home in the regional semifinals. With the win, GSA improved to 12-2 on the season. The team is in search of its second straight Class C North championship and first state title. The second-ranked Eagles will play Mattanawcook Academy (14-0) in the final at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 5. Mattanawcook gave GSA its only two losses this season when the teams met April 30 and May 21. On the boys’ side, No. 2 Orono (10-4) ended the No. 3 GSA boys’ quest for a ninth straight Class C North title with a 4-1 home win in Saturday’s semifinals. The Red Riots had previously beaten No. 7 Deer Isle-Stonington (6-8) 5-0 on Wednesday. In Class B play, the No. 5 Ellsworth boys’ team upset fourth-ranked Belfast (9-4) on the road Thursday. The Eagles’ season then ended at 9-6 Saturday with a 4-1 defeat against top-ranked Waterville (14-0) in the regional semifinals. Update: The Class C North final between GSA and Mattanawcook has been moved to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6. The tennis courts at Colby College were not ready for play Monday after rain throughout the state.
