ELLSWORTH — On the girls’ side of the tennis rankings, the Ellsworth Eagles, who are 10-2 after losing to second-ranked Caribou on Saturday and to MDI on Tuesday, are in fourth place and the 10-2 Trojans are sixth in Class B.

The Eagle girls fell to once-beaten Caribou 3-2 on Saturday as the Vikings took first doubles and won at second and third singles.

At first singles for Ellsworth, Miranda Grant rolled over Jenna Sealander 8-0 and at first doubles, Holly Wadman and Caitlin Maloney prevailed 8-5 over Liz Barbosa and Missy Nadeau.

On Tuesday, Grant was upset by MDI’s Rebecca Thormann 8-6 in a 4-1 Trojan win over the Eagles.

Other MDI winners were Addie Maxwell over Ashley Harding 8-2, Taylor LaCasse and Grace Robbins over Wadman and Maloney and Hannah Adelmann and Mia Musetti over Danel White and Paige Lewis 8-4.

Clarissa Winkleman had Ellsworth’s only win, beating Jessica Swanson 8-5.

In Class C, the 11-1 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners edged two points in front of the 8-3 GSA Eagles and into second place, behind Dexter, after sweeping a doubleheader from the Lee Academy Pandas on Saturday.

They continued their winning ways on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader over the Sumner Tigers at Sorrento.

Before those losses, the 3-9 Tigers were clinging to the 12th and last playoff spot in Class C, just three-tenths of a point in front of Lee Academy.
