Trojan Girls Are Runners-Up

BANGOR — The Mount Desert Island Trojan girls finished as runner-ups to the Bangor Rams in last weekend’s Penobscot Valley Conference Swimming Championships.

Bangor’s Rams barely squeaked by the Trojans 284-274.5 in the girls’ championships on Saturday at Husson, with the Ellsworth Eagle girls placing sixth.

Highlights for the Eagles were two gold medal and team record performances of freshman Cece McEachern.

She won the 50-yard freestyle by a full second with a time of 25.96 seconds, and led the field by seven seconds in winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:33.42.

The Trojan girls took championships in six events and had several other top three finishes.

The foursome of juniors Chelsey Curran, Augusta Blandford and Ryann Rourk and freshman Erin Connery won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.38.

The foursome of freshmen Amelia Kief and Olivia Jacobs and juniors Courtney Sullivan and Curran won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:48.44.

Freshman Erin Connery combined with Rourk, Jacobs and Kief to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:58.92.

Kief also won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.58 seconds and was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.11.

Curran won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.82 and was third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.43.

Rourk won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.98 and was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.01.

Jacobs placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.95 seconds and third in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.85.

Connery was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.69 and third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:48.01.
