Maks Grover Wins Both Echo Lake Swims

MOUNT DESERT — Maks Grover of Ellsworth took top honors in the 500-yard and 1.5-mile events at Saturday’s 17th annual Bill Reeve Echo Lake Swim, sponsored by the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA.

Grover completed the 500-yard swim in a time of 5:53.15, finishing well ahead of runner-up Adelaide Cairns, who had a time of 6:11.96.

Erin Connery was third in 6:25.37, followed by Rick Webber, fourth in 6:32.31, and Sam Alvarado, fifth in 7:07.52.

Rounding out the top 10 were Avalon Kerley, sixth in 7:09.31; Andrea Wood, seventh in 7:13.15; Ben Avery, eighth in 7:16.28; Sydney Wright, ninth in 7:17.21; and Ridge Jordan, 10th in 7:19.09.

Grover then swam the 1.5-mile course in 33:42.56 with runner-up Connery, the first female finisher, about four minutes behind in 37:43.15.

Others in the top 10 were Avery, third in 39:00.93; Ben Walton, fourth in 39:12.02; Cooper Holmes, fifth in 39:16.50; Ross Johnston, sixth in 40:39.06; Drew Darling, seventh in 41:31.96; John Driver, eighth, in 42:14.46; Alvarado, ninth in 42:26.18; and Lainey Cohen, 10th in 42:40.34.

About 60 swimmers competed in the annual event.
