Former EHS standout Clarke racks up honors for Husson swim team

BANGOR — Husson University freshman and 2019 Ellsworth High School graduate Ellie Clarke racked up the latest in a list of early-season honors last Wednesday when she was named Husson Female Athlete of the Week.

In Husson’s Nov. 15 double-dual meet against Maine Maritime Academy and St. Joseph’s College, Clarke posted individual wins in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. She also competed on the Eagles’ winning 100-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams.

Clarke began her college swimming career with Husson’s Oct. 25 home meet against Maine Maritime Academy. That meet saw her win the 50- and 100-yard backstrokes and compete as part of her team’s winning 200-yard medley relay unit.

Clarke’s times of 29.40 seconds on the opening leg of the 200 medley relay and 1 minute, 4.18 seconds in the 100 backstroke were Husson school records. She was named the New England Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Association’s Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the week of Oct. 30.

At Ellsworth High School, Clarke was a three-year captain and winner of five individual Penobscot Valley Conference titles and one PVC relay title. She was named PVC Girls’ Swimmer of the Year last season as the Ellsworth girls posted their best-ever finish at states with a fifth-place showing in the Class B championships.
