MOUNT DESERT — For the second year in a row, Ellsworth High School swimmers led the way in one of eastern Maine’s biggest outdoor swims.
Ellsworth swimmers swept the men’s and women’s 500-yard and 1.5-mile events Saturday at the Bill Reeve Echo Lake Swim at Camp Beech Cliff. Nick Partridge (500-yard) and Sean Hill (1.5-mile) won the men’s events, and Kristy Barry won both women’s races.
The 500-yard race saw Partridge finish in 6 minutes, 16 seconds to edge Barry by a mere second for the overall win. Kiera Springer, Peighton Skeate and Ella Montgomery rounded out the top five.
In the 1.5-mile race, Hill finished in 37:18 to top runner-up Zane Fitzsimmons’ time of 37:46. Barry placed fifth overall with a time of 39:05, edging Tiffany Twombly (40:35) to win the women’s race.
The swim honors Bill Reeve, a former United States Master Swimmer who swam at the Down East Family YMCA.
