OLD TOWN — With the regular season halfway complete, the Ellsworth swim team has yet to lose a competition.
Ellsworth claimed boys’ and girls’ team victories in Thursday’s meet against Old Town/Orono at Old Town High School. The Eagles rolled to a 101-44 win in the girls’ meet and prevailed 79-63 on the boys’ side.
The Ellsworth girls posted wins in 10 of 11 events, including a sweep of all three relay races. Sydney Libby, Leah MacPherson, Kristy Barry and Kiera Springer won the 200-yard medley relay (2:12.81) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.11) for the Eagles, who also got a win from Barry, Springer, Jordan Berry and Ella Montgomery in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.05).
Individually, Barry (100-yard freestyle, 57.00; 100-yard backstroke, 1:05.24) and Montgomery (500-yard freestyle, 6:01.13; 100-yard breaststroke, 1:26.39) won two events each for Ellsworth. Springer (200-yard freestyle, 2:08.86), Berry (200-yard individual medley, 2:39.42) and MacPherson (100-yard butterfly, 1:17.96) also claimed wins for the Eagles.
On the boys’ side, Ellsworth earned its team victory on the back of wins in all three relays. The Eagles won the 200 medley relay in 2:01.30 (Andy Erlanson, Lucas Fendl, Kobe Swett, Robert Springer), the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.88 (Swett, Erlanson, Felix Markosian, Noah DiDonato) and the 400 freestyle relay in 4:08.02 (Swett, Fendl, Markosian, Springer).
Individually, Springer (200 IM; 2:24.62, 500 freestyle, 5:40.44) and Erlanson (50-yard freestyle, 26.67; 100 breaststroke, 1:18.27) claimed two wins for the Ellsworth boys. Fendl added a win in the 100 backstroke for the Eagles as he finished in 1:13.13.
Ellsworth’s next meet will be against Bangor at 6 p.m. next Friday, Jan. 14, at the Down East Family YMCA.
