ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth swim team began the home stretch of the 2018-19 regular season Friday with a sweep of visiting Old Town at the Down East Family YMCA.
The Eagles came away with a 97-73 win over the Coyotes on the girls’ side and a 105-48 victory on the boys’ side. It was the penultimate home meet of the season for Ellsworth.
On the girls’ side, Ellsworth got team wins in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Kristy Barry (200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle) and Ellie Clarke (200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle) got two individual wins apiece for the Eagles, and Miriam Nelson (100-yard freestyle), Abby Mazgaj (100-yard backstroke) and Lilja Hanson (100-yard breaststroke) also won events.
The Ellsworth boys’ team swept Old Town in the relay events and got individual wins from Sam Pelletier (200 IM and 100-yard butterfly), Sean Hill (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle), Camden Holmes (200 freestyle), Calvin Nelson (500 freestyle) and Henry Scheff (100 breaststroke). The sole non-event win for the Eagles on the boys’ side came in the 100 backstroke.
Ellsworth’s next meet will be against Foxcroft at 6:15 p.m. next Friday, Jan. 25, at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA in Dover-Foxcroft. The Eagles will then face George Stevens Academy on Senior Night at 7 p.m. Feb. 1.
