ROCKPORT — The Ellsworth swim team competed in its final meet of 2021 Thursday as it took on Camden Hills at the Penobscot Bay Area YMCA.
The Ellsworth girls’ team claimed an 84-76 win over Camden Hills in a tightly contested meet in Rockport. On the boys’ side, the Eagles swam for time with only one opposing swimmer competing in the meet.
Swimming in the 100-yard butterfly for the first time in a varsity meet, Ellsworth’s Ella Montgomery posted a new record in the event with a time of 1 minute, 1.66 seconds. Montgomery also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.36 seconds.
Ellsworth’s Kristy Barry claimed two wins of her own in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.84) and 500-yard freestyle (5:44.03). The Eagles also got individual wins from Kiera Springer (100-yard freestyle, 1:01.15) and Caroline Mazgaj (100-yard backstroke, 1:08.35) and a team win from Barry, Mazgaj, Ellie Anderson and Sydney Libby (200-yard medley relay, 2:04.30).
On the boys’ side, Ellsworth won all 12 events with only one independent swimmer from Oceanside High School competing against the Eagles in the 100 (won by Kobe Swett in 1:01.89) and 200 (won by Owen Frank in 2:07.69) freestyles. The Eagles’ Nick Partridge won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.69 seconds, just 0.03 shy of the pool record.
Ellsworth will compete in its first meet of 2022 when it takes on Old Town/Orono at 6 p.m. next Friday, Jan. 7, at Old Town High School.
