DEFY’s Sealander, Holmes excel at national meet



ELLSWORTH — Ava Sealander and Camden Holmes of the Down East Family YMCA swim team placed among the top competitors nationally Thursday at the YMCA Long Course National Championships at the University of Maryland.

Sealander, who graduated from George Stevens Academy in June, placed sixth in the 50-yard butterfly, and Holmes, who will be a senior at Ellsworth High School this coming school year, took 13th in the boys’ 50-yard freestyle.

The two claimed individual state championships at the high school level this past season with Sealander winning the Class B 200-meter individual medley and Holmes claiming victory twice in the same class with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
