DEFY swimmers break state records



INDIANAPOLIS — The Down East Family YMCA Dolphins sent five swimmers to the YMCA Long Course championships over the weekend.

Talor Hamilton, Cooper Holmes, Richie Matthews, Camden Holmes and Ava Sealander qualified to compete in a combined 17 events against the best YMCA swimmers from across the nation.

The Dolphins swam their way to four new state records and 10 top 24 swims. The swimmers competed in the morning to place among the top 24 and earn a spot in the finals.

Cooper Holmes was the runner-up to the national champion in the 50-meter breaststroke (30.15 — a state record) and 15th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:08.13).

DEFY also notched state records in the following events.

Boys 200 freestyle relay: Cooper Holmes, Richie Matthews, Camden Holmes, Talor Hamilton, 24th in 1:40.58.

Boys 200 medley relay: Talor Hamilton, Cooper Holmes, Richie Matthews, Camden Holmes, 17th in 1:51.10.

Boys 400 medley relay: Talor Hamilton, Cooper Holmes, Richie Matthews, Camden Holmes, 24th in 4:09.69.

Talor Hamilton placed 10th in the 100-meter backstroke (59.86), 11th in the 50-meter butterfly (26.38), 19th the 50-meter freestyle (24.46) and fourth in the 50-meter backstroke (27.90).
