BATH — The Down East Family YMCA swim team had a record-setting weekend in the Long Reach Swim Club Senior Meet at the Bath Area Family YMCA

Ellie Anderson, Kristy Barry, Lucas Fendl, Owen Frank, Dasha Herrington, Jesse Lower, Caroline Mazgaj, Ella Montgomery, Nick Partridge and Kiera Springer competed in the event, which was hosted by Bath’s Long Reach Swim Club. Those swimmers combined for a total of five new records as well as a slew of other strong finishes.

Montgomery set two team records in the 13-14 age group as she swam the 50-yard butterfly in 27 seconds flat and the 50-yard backstroke in 28.30. Partridge’s 200-yard breaststroke swim of 2:07.96 set the senior boys’ record and the Ed Gamble Pool record and combined with Herrington, Barry and Lower to set a new record in the senior relay (1:36.88).

Partridge’s winning 200 breaststroke time also qualified him for the YMCA’s national championships in the spring. Lower qualified for nationals in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 breaststroke as he posted times of 51.97 seconds and 2:09.57, respectively.

Overall, DEFY scored 517 points to claim fourth place out of 12 teams behind Kennebec Valley YMCA (Augusta), the Westbrook Seals and the JCC Sea Serpents (Marblehead, Mass.). Additionally, Montgomery scored 83 individual points, the most of any swimmer in the girls’ meet.
