MMA Sweeps Double Header Against UMaine Farmington

CASTINE — The Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime defeated the Beavers from the University of Maine at Farmington 5-3 and 3-0 Friday night in North Atlantic Conference action. With the wins, MMA improves to 17-6 (11-3 NAC) while UMF falls to 9-15 (5-7 NAC).

The Lady Mariners reached the scoreboard in the first inning off an RBI double by Mallery Stanley (Standish) and an RBI single by Sabrina Keach (Chesterville) giving MMA a 2-0 lead.  MMA added another run in the bottom of the second inning when a Casey McCloskey (Howland) ground out for an RBI that plated Autumn Jones (Windham).  The Lady Mariners tacked on additional two runs in the fifth innings to push their lead to 5-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Beavers exploded for three runs with two outs in the inning. UMF scored their first run when Amy Jones (Augusta) scored from first after an error by the left fielder. Kaitlyn Bartlett Chesterville) followed with an RBI single plating Lily Barry (Hermon) before Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) drove in Bartlett with an RBI double to right center.

The Beavers went quietly in the seventh and MMA won the contest 5-3. Erica Taylor (Mesquite, TX) picked up the win for MMA going seven innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, while striking out nine. Emma Vaillancourt (Saco) took the loss for UMF.

In game two, the Lady Mariners scored an unearned run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. MMA scored two more runs in the second when Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) singled to center driving in two runs.

Casey McCloskey took care of the rest on the mound for MMA scattering three hits while striking out six to pick up her 10th win of the season. Vaillancourt was the hard luck loser for UMF.
