MDI bests Ellsworth 4-3

Avalon Kerley drove in two runs with three singles to lead the MDI Trojans to a 4-3 win over the Ellsworth Eagles on Saturday in Bar Harbor.

Righthander Haley Littlefield outdueled Ellsworth righthander Megan Hunt in the pitcher’s circle for the Trojans, scattering six hits.

The Eagles drew first blood in the top of the third when Delaney Sargent scored on a bunt by Leah Stevens.

In the bottom of the inning, MDI’s Sierra Myrick reach base with two outs, Molly Carroll followed with a single and Avalon Kerley rapped a two-run single to give the Trojans the lead.

In the top of the fourth, Ellsworth’s Emily Berry tripled and stole home, escaping a pickle, to knot the score at 2-2.

The Trojans pulled in front in the bottom of the sixth when Hannah annaShaw singled, stole second and scored on a double by Ali Bierman.

Shelby O’Neil singled and Bierman stole third, then raced home on a single by Myrick for a 4-2 MDI lead.

Stevens drive in a run for Ellsworth in the top of the seventh, but the Trojans retired the side without further damage.

Myrick and Carroll each singled twice for MDI.

Stevens had two singles for Ellsworth.
