BUCKSPORT — Two Hancock County softball teams are now on winning streaks after suffering back-to-back losses earlier in the season.
Bucksport and Sumner moved up the Class C North standings with key victories in recent contests. The Golden Bucks claimed decisive wins against Oceanside and Belfast last week before topping Orono on Monday, and the Tigers followed a win over Jonesport-Beals on Saturday with a victory Monday against rival Narraguagus.
Bucksport bounced back from losses against Central and Orono with consecutive wins over Midcoast teams as it claimed a 9-1 home win Friday against Oceanside and a 17-5 road win Saturday against Belfast. The Golden Bucks (5-2) then claimed a walkoff win Monday as they plated two runs in the seventh inning to prevail 4-3 over visiting Orono.
Sumner earned an 11-10 home victory over Jonesport-Beals on Saturday before prevailing in another Downeast battle Monday with a 19-5 victory over Narraguagus in Harrington. The Tigers (4-2), who had previously beaten Narraguagus and Washington Academy to conclude April, have scored 70 runs in their past four games.
Bucksport will host Searsport at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, before facing George Stevens Academy at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, in Blue Hill. Sumner, which plays at Machias at 4 p.m. Wednesday, hosts Searsport at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15. The Tigers and Golden Bucks will then face one another at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday, May 18, in Sullivan.
