BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with road wins over Orono and Searsport last week and a home victory over Ellsworth on Tuesday.
After beating Orono 17-3 on Wednesday, Bucksport plated a season-high 20 runs in a 20-3 win over Searsport on Friday. The wins gave the Golden Bucks season sweeps over both teams.
On Tuesday, Bucksport’s Kate Saunders struck out six batters as the Golden Bucks (12-1) recorded a 5-0 win over Ellsworth (5-9). Mikayla Tripp had two doubles for the Golden Bucks, who currently top the Class C North standings with three games to play.
Bucksport has now won 32 of its past 33 games dating back to the start of last season. Its only loss came in a 3-1 defeat to Central on April 25.
Bucksport’s next game will be against Dexter (6-7) on Friday, May 25. The team will then face George Stevens Academy on Monday, May 28, before concluding the regular season against Sumner on Wednesday, May 30. All three games will be on the road at 4:30 p.m.
Correction: The headline in the original version of this article incorrectly stated the number of consecutive games the Bucksport softball team had won. The team’s win over Ellsworth marked its ninth victory in a row.
