Tigers Maul Mariners

SULLIVAN — On Saturday, Gabe O’Brien had four goals as the Sumner Tigers downed the visiting Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners 6-1.

O’Brien gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first half, connecting on a pair of shots from about 18 yards out.

He scored two more in the second half, one on a shot that glanced off a Mariner defender and the other on a 20-yard direct kick, before his teammates got in on the action.

Justin Chipman notched a goal midway through the period, and Joey Malloy capped the scoring for the Tigers.

Nathan Davis had the lone goal for the Mariners as Sumner goalkeeper Sam Smith made three saves on just five DI-Stonington shots.

Hayden Torrey had 16 saves on 22 shots in goal for the Mariners.
