Sumner Tigers win first two games

ELLSWORTH — The Sumner Tigers are off to a strong start with wins in the first two soccer outings.

The Bucksport Golden Bucks also opened their season with a win on Friday, and the Ellsworth Eagles played to a scoreless tie in Presque Isle on Saturday.

Sumner 3, Washington Academy 1

Savanah Turner scored a pair of goals to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 win over the Washington Academy Raiders on Saturday in Sullivan.

Turner also assisted on a goal by Genesis DiCarlo, and Sally Lockhart and Sequoia Johnson provided the assists on Turner’s goals.

Jordan Merchant turned in 14 saves on 19 shots in goal for the Tigers, and Paige Sinford had 13 saves on 19 shots in goal for the Raiders.

Sumner 5, Narraguagus 1

The Tigers made it two in a row on Monday in Sullivan as they rolled to a 5-1 victory over the Narraguagus Knights of Harrington.

Johnson and DiCarlo each had a pair of goals and Turner scored on and assisted on two for the Tigers.

Carol Ann Young provided the only goal for Narraguagus.

Merchant made five stops on nine shots in goal for the Tigers, and Carolyn Deshiffart had six saves on 19 shots for the Knights.
