SULLIVAN — With nearly three weeks of the season gone, two local teams hold the top spots in the Class C North boys’ soccer standings.
Sumner faced Bucksport in local action Thursday and earned a 10-1 road win. Caelan Billings had four goals and an assist for the Tigers, and Silas Goldarb (three goals and one assist), Eduardo Figueroa (one goal and one assist), Damon Warren and Michael Merchant (one goal each) and Billy Wray (four assists) also contributed.
On Saturday, Sumner traveled to Searsport and earned an 8-1 win over the Vikings. Warren had four goals and an assist in the win as Billings and Goldfarb had one goal and two assists apiece, Wray and Nolan Christensen had one goal apiece and Figueroa and Bryce Coombs had one assist apiece for the No. 1 Tigers (5-0).
GSA traveled to Bucksport last Tuesday and earned a 7-2 win. The Eagles were at home against Washington Academy two days later and defeated the Raiders 5-1 to notch their third straight victory.
The Eagles traveled to Aroostook County on Saturday and earned another big Class C North win with a 2-1 triumph over Houlton. Seniors Nate Mason and Owen Vinall scored for second-ranked GSA (5-1).
GSA is scheduled to play on the road against Ellsworth (2-4) at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 25. The Eagles will host Mount Desert Island at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and will play at Orono at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.
Sumner’s home game against Machias was postponed from Tuesday to Oct. 7 due to inclement weather. The Tigers will play on the road Friday against Lee Academy and Saturday against Narraguagus before hosting Central next Tuesday, Oct. 1, and playing at Machias next Wednesday, Oct. 2. All four games are scheduled for 4 p.m. starts.
