Lady Owls Soccer Rolls Past MMA

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s soccer team dropped Maine Maritime Academy, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, in non-conference match-up at Park Family Field. With the win, the Lady Owls move to 4-0 on the season and the loss drops MMA to 1-3-1.

Four different players tallied a goal for UMPI on the day; junior Desiree Smith (Thomaston)opened up scoring in the game in only the 3rd minute of play, converting off a beautiful pass from Carolynn Tuck (Brewer). Smith continues her excellent play on the year, earning three points with one goal and two assists in the Owl win over the Mariners. Freshman Eleana Estrada (Dover, DE) gave UMPI the 2-0 in the 16th minute of play, firing the ball from the 18 past the MMA keeper into the back of the right side of the net. Smith set up the perfect pass, after beating three defenders along the right goal-line.

Tuck got in the scoring action at the 29 minute mark, driving the ball in from 30 yards out and earning her second point of the match as the Lady Owls went up 3-0. Finally, in the 44th minute, Freshman Susan Lavertu (Madawaska)converted off a Desiree Smith corner kick bring the final score to 4-0 in the UMPI victory.

UMPI capitalized on the field, earning eight corner kicks to MMA’s two; the Owls also earned 16 shots in the game compared to the Mariners 12.

Sophomore keeper, Taylor Ussery (LaVerne, CA), earned her fourth win of the season, making a total of five saves in the win. Lacey jackson (York, PA) took the loss for MMA.
