GSA boys’ soccer tops Dexter; Sumner edges Central September 1, 2018 on Soccer, Sports BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy and Sumner boys’ soccer teams got off to excellent starts to the 2018 season Saturday. GSA traveled to Dexter, where the Eagles began last season with a 3-3 draw. This time, the result was never in doubt as the Eagles routed the Tigers (0-1) 6-2. Five different players scored for GSA with David Gadsby scoring twice. Ethan Vinall, Ricardo Sanchez, Michael Moon and Owen Vinall also netted for the Eagles (1-0) in the win. Jed Sawyer and Liam Webb split time in goal for the Eagles and combined for 15 saves. The Eagles are seeking their third straight appearance in the Class C North championship game this season. Sumner also headed to western Penobscot County for its opening game as the Tigers (1-0) battled Central in Corinth. In another high-scoring encounter, the Tigers held off the Red Devils (0-1) to earn a 5-4 victory. Damon Warren scored three goals for Sumner in the win, and the visitors also received goals from Caelan Billings and Orlando Herrera. Junior Alex Rumill had five saves for the Tigers. The Eagles will battle Bucksport in their first home game of the season at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5. Sumner will take on Bangor Christian on the road at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.
