ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Eagles boosted their record to a perfect 10-0 on Monday, downing the Hermon Hawks 3-0 for their eighth shutout of the season.

Despite sporting the best record in Eastern Maine Class B, Ellsworth was ranked third in the standings as of Tuesday, trailing the top-ranked Camden Hills Windjammers (9-0-1) and the number two Presque Isle Wildcats (9-1-1).

Both the Eagles and the visiting Hawks had their scoring changes early in Monday’s contest, but Ellsworth’s first goal didn’t come until midway through the first half when Nick Holt headed an Andrew Austin throw-in across the goal mouth to Jake Hale, who punched it into the net.

Less than four minutes later, the Eagles scored again when Cote Card headed a Josh Bean corner kick to Tyler Palmer, who headed the ball into the goal.

Ellsworth struck again at the 10:46 mark when Hale scored again, this time off a loose ball in the penalty box following another Austin throw-in.

Jordan Carter had two saves on six shots in goal for Ellsworth, and Kevin Frederick made seven stops on 14 shots for the Hawks.
