WATERVILLE — Katie Palano (Wakefield, Mass.) scored midway through the first half and the Colby College women’s soccer team added two more goals in the second half on the way to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday.
The Mules stand at 2-1-3 overall heading into Saturday’s 11 a.m. home game with Middlebury College. The Mariners fall to 3-5-1 overall and will play at Husson University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Palano scored unassisted at 19:34 for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
Colby, which had a 29-1 shot advantage and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks, got some breathing room when co-captain Mari Crommett (Cumberland) chipped a 25-yard shot over the keeper’s head for a score with 23:30 to play in the game. Marissa Simmons (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally with only 7:26 left.
Colby’s Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) made one save for her fourth shutout of the season. The Mariners received 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Lacey Jackson (York, Pa.).
