Bucksport soccer teams pour in goals in early-season victories



BUCKSPORT — The soccer teams at one Hancock County high school are scoring at will in the 2021 season’s opening stages.

Bucksport’s boys’ and girls’ teams hopped out to 2-0 starts with convincing victories in their early contests. The boys’ team scored 14 goals in opening wins over Mattanawcook Academy and Piscataquis, and the girls found the net 21 times in their victories over Mattanawcook and Sumner.

On Friday, the Bucksport girls’ team opened the season as it traveled to Lincoln to take on Mattanawcook. The Bucks didn’t disappoint as they put nine goals past the home team in a 9-0 victory.

Returning to action Tuesday, Bucksport claimed an even more decisive win as it beat Sumner (0-2) at Bucksport High School. Ella Hosford scored seven goals for the Golden Bucks, who claimed a 12-1 win in the Hancock County showdown.

On the boys’ side, Bucksport opened its 2021 season Saturday with a 6-0 road win over Mattanawcook. Evan Donnell and Jason Terrill had two goals each for the Golden Bucks, who also got one goal apiece from Kai Brown and Brandon Elden. Jacob Brezovsky provided two assists for Bucksport in the win.

Bucksport claimed another six-goal win Tuesday as it defeated Piscataquis (0-2) 8-2 in Milo. Donnell scored three goals and added two assists for the Golden Bucks, and Brezovsky and Henry Foster (one goal and one assist each) and Gabe LeClair (first varsity goal) also contributed in the visitors’ victory.

The Bucksport boys will play 6 p.m. home games against Searsport (tomorrow, Sept. 9) and Orono (Saturday, Sept. 11) before facing Central on the road at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14. The girls will host Orono at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, face Central at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in Corinth and host Calais at 4 next Wednesday, Sept. 15.
