Peckenham and Tunney Lead Maine Runners in NYC Marathon

NEW YORK CITY — James Peckenham of Orland and Tim Tunney of Ellsworth were the top finishers in a field of 67 Maine runners in Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

Peckenham, 25, took top honors for Maine, placing 885th overall with his time of 2:57:44 in the field of 46,795 finishers.

Tunney, 36, was 978th overall with a time of 2:58:43.

Also running from Hancock County were John Viechnicki, 44, of Bar Harbor, who placed 1,461 overall with a time of 3:03:49; Gary Allen, 54, of Cranberry Isles, who placed 2,343 with a time of 3:12:11; and Derek Hayes, 33, of Franklin, who placed 8,857 with a time of 3:43.06.
