BLUE HILL — Nikos Christ and Phoebe Markle turned in strong performances to emerge as top overall five-kilometer winners in the fifth annual Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Fun Run on Saturday, Aug. 4.
The event includes the 5K road race and a one-mile run and community walk and is sponsored by Affiliated Medical Healthcare Services, the Bay School, Cadillac Mountain Sports, Coastal Eyecare, Hale and Hamlin LLC and Healthy Peninsula.
In the featured event, Nikos Christ of Blue Hill pulled away to best runner-up Matt Homich of Ellsworth by 14 seconds, finishing with a winning time of 17 minutes and 8 seconds in the hot, humid conditions.
Markle, a George Stevens Academy graduate who now makes her home in Virginia and summers in Brooksville, placed seventh overall and was the top female runner with a time of 19:23.
Male and female age group winners were:
12 and under — Rex Thors of Blue Hill in 23:26 and Gillian Adkins of Annapolis, Md., in 25:16.
13-19 — Mitchell Silver of Fort Washington, Pa., in 17:31 and Katie Schmidtt of Durham, N.H., in 20:41.
20-29 — Christ and Markle.
30:39 — Seth Cole of Portsmouth, N.H., in 19:02 and Angela Lizotte of Winterport in 22:48.
40-49 — Keith Schmidtt of Durham, N.H.,, in 18:07 and Liz Schmidtt of Durham, N.H., in 23:05.
50-59 — Larry Piazza of Blue Hill in 23:34 and Janet Feldman of Brooklin in 21:26.
60-69 — Ed Feldman of Brooklin in 23:33 and Barbara Robidoux in 27:33.
70-79 — Lloyd Harmon of Ellsworth in 24:17.
