MOUNT DESERT — The Great Harbor Museum on Main Street in Northeast Harbor will be the finish line of the 37th annual 5-mile road race in support of the Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service on Saturday, Aug. 23. Crow Athletics is organizing the event.
The course shadows Somes Sound along Sergeant Drive and runs point to point from out of town to Main Street. The race attracts local runners as well as people from across the country.
Last year, Nikos Crist of Blue Hill was first across the line with a time of 27:35. Jennifer VanDongen of Bar Harbor led the women with a finish time of 31:35. 126 participants completed the race in 2013.
Check in and registration will be at the finish line at the Great Harbor Maritime Museum in downtown Northeast Harbor from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Participants will be shuttled to the starting line for the start of the walk at 9 a.m. and the race at 9:30 a.m.
A $20 registration fee prior to race day or a $25 fee on race day is required. Event volunteers and additional donations are welcome.
The Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service Inc. has been providing emergency medical care to the residents and visitors of the Town of Mount Desert and surrounding areas since 1938.
Ambulance Service EMS personnel consist of volunteer pay-per-call Maine licensed Emergency Medical Technicians and trained volunteer drivers. They staff two state-of-the-art Advanced Life Support level ambulances available 24 hours a day out of the Northeast Harbor station.
